“The Lady of the Lake known in medieval Arthurian tales as Nimue, Vivienne, or ‘Dame du Lac’ is a figure whose roots reach deep into Celtic folklore. Long before the legends were written down in 12th–13th-century French romance, Celtic peoples across Britain and Ireland told stories of powerful female spirits of lakes and waters, revered as guardians of life, fate, and the Otherworld.
