This A4 artwork draws on the legend of the banshee, the bean sídhe or “fairy woman of the mound,” from Irish tradition. Said to keen in the night before a death, she is not a bringer of harm but a mourner of fate, her sorrow carried on the wind. Tales of a banshee-like “fairy woman of death” appear in Irish writings as early as the 14th century, echoing older Celtic beliefs in spirits of the Otherworld and the ancient burial mounds of the land.
